Hello! I'm Tom Dorsz, and these are my travel journals. To start my journey, I often look at photographs in magazines, on websites, or during photography workshops. It’s not a sudden realization that's where I want to go, but rather a slow and thoughtful process of deciding where, when, how to get there, and cost.
I look for different and visually appealing places like mountains, glaciers, deserts, and the coastplaces that aren't heavily travelled. I don't mind the cold, but I dislike the heat. I’m willing to travel to deserts, but as far from the equator as possible, and only during winter.  Part of my planning involves looking at different photography workshops, which often guide me to the most visually appealing places.
Every picture I take captivates me and is deeply emotional, often in unexpected ways, whether I am shooting it there or looking at it later. I want to appreciate the scenery, meet people, explore places, and experience everything firsthand.
When I travel, I also think about what image will make for a good watercolor. I've been a watercolor artist for many years. When I paint, I experience the true joy that creativity offers me. I become absorbed, and as my wife likes to say, you're as quiet as a church mouse.  I find peace and solace in both the process and the memory of where I was at the time.
I hope my journals, photographs, and watercolors inspire you to travel and deepen your appreciation for our beautiful and fragile world.
